Why
should I
adopt a pet?
Adopting a pet from our shelter, or any other no kill shelter, will save a life. It will make room for other dogs roaming the streets and rural areas. Most animals in our care are there for reasons that have nothing to do with the dog or their behavior. Your adoption fee covers the cost of spaying or neutering and a vaccination.

How do I adopt a pet?
You can view our pets that are available for adoption on our website, on Petfinders and several other sites. You will need to fill out an adoption application that is available on our site or at Caldwell Animal Clinic, PFC Feeds and O’Neal Gas. If you don’t have a specific pet in mind the application will help determine the best choice for you. One of our volunteers will contact you to help in the selection process.
-
Are there any adoption requirements?
The number one requirement for adopting is having a safe and healthy environment for them. Dogs need ample space to run and play as well as shelter to protect them from the elements. A fence will keep your pet safe and out of the streets. Unless you are keeping your pet inside and walking on a leash we do require a fenced in area to keep them safe.

How to avoid picking the wrong pet?
Our application or a volunteer at SPC can help you determine the right pet for you. You need to determine if you want a puppy, a young adult, an older pet, what their grooming needs are and other factors. We have a return policy that will allow you to bring the pet back if the fit is not right for you or them. We do not allow you to give away the pet to someone without our approval. We want to make sure you and your pet are happy and healthy.

Are pets for adoption healthy?
All of our pets are given vaccinations and wormers during their time with us. Some pets may have existing conditions and you will be informed of them before adopting them. Sometimes we are not aware of a condition and if this is a problem they can be returned. We constantly strive to keep them healthy and are adding more to our regimen to keep them this way as we can.
